Culture

Keeping The Passion

When asked what makes Lincoln Industries different than other companies, the answer is always, “The culture.” For five straight years, Lincoln Industries has been named one of the 50 Best Small & Medium Companies to Work for in America. A company can’t get there without a steadfast commitment to the people who have helped them get to where they are today. This is why Lincoln Industries works hard to develop the strong, close-knit culture of a family-owned business you might expect to find in a company a tenth our size. Even as we’ve grown from just under 200 people in 2000 to over 500 today, we continue to retain a strong commitment to serving the needs of those who work for us and to do what’s best for them.

The culture at Lincoln Industries is supported through many programs, including learning and development, workplace wellness, safety, communications and recognition. These are just a few of the ways we “keep the passion.”

Talent-Based Organization

At Lincoln Industries, we believe in selecting people based on fit, talent and skill—in that order. Our vision is to be an organization with the right people, in the right seats, fully engaged and successful in what they do to achieve great results.

We want people whose drive, values and motives are consistent with our Beliefs & Drivers. We are looking for people who can build trust in teams and have pride in their work. They are competitive, results oriented and positive.

Being on the “right seat on the bus” is just as critical as being a right fit for Lincoln Industries. To do that, it is important to know and understand your “sweet spots” which we consider your talents. Doing what you are naturally good at and what you enjoy doing will result in a long-term, satisfying career.

Once we have someone with the right fit and high talent, we look at their skills and knowledge. Skills and knowledge are acquired through experience, education and training. While having the necessary skills and knowledge is important, these can be taught. Lincoln Industries’ learning and development team can help each individual to learn specific skills needed for the position.

We have been a talent-based organization for several years and have found it is key to our success as a great place to work.

Learning & Development

People who are passionate about what they do will go above and beyond for customers. This is key to the “can do” attitude found everywhere at Lincoln Industries. The learning and development of all Lincoln Industries people is managed through our Vision College. The purpose of Lincoln Industries’ Vision College is to develop talents to improve performance and apply them effectively for success in their career.

Development and training may be focused on interests of today or on ambitions for tomorrow. The Vision College is a unique development function which is available to all people to drive performance improvements. Through the Vision College, personal potential and career goals are attainable.

Wellness

Lincoln Industries’ wellness vision encompasses the body, mind, and spirit and is an important component of our company's Beliefs. We support our people in making smarter, healthier lifestyle choices and encourage balance between work, home and personal goals. We believe supporting our people’s health and wellness interests is a sound investment in our company. After all, our people are the most important product of Lincoln Industries. Our workplace wellness program has resulted in lower turnover, lower absenteeism and lower healthcare costs. For the customer, this translates into a workforce that is dependable and reliable.

Safety

We believe safety is more powerful when embraced by every person at Lincoln Industries. Therefore, we have safety programs in place that allow our people to be actively involved and empowered to identify, define and measure both safe and at-risk behaviors in the workplace.

Since implementing behavioral-based safety in 2006, Lincoln Industries has seen incident rates decrease 38%. “Actively caring” training was given for everyone at Lincoln Industries and is now supported by two safety observations done by every Lincoln Industries person. This company-wide support has proven successful as overall safety scores continue to increase.

Communications

Sharing information is one of the key elements to staying small as we get big. Information isn't just a one way street. There are many opportunities for people to ask questions and share information with each other and the senior management teams. Keeping all stakeholders current on our business supports the strong culture of being a company that cares about its people, suppliers and customers. Here are some of the many tools we use to keep the communication lines open:

  • One Company / One Voice meetings
  • Internal newsletter
  • External newsletter
  • Internal website
  • Profit-sharing letter
  • Pre-shift meetings
  • Digital signage systems
  • Individual opinion surveys
  • Departmental surveys
  • Great Places to Work® Trust surveys

Recognition

“Appropriate recognition motivates our people to be successful” is another way Lincoln Industries keeps the passion alive. Everyone wants to feel valued. We do this through monthly Champions lunches used to recognize people who have participated in learning and development opportunities, wellness events and other company activities. There are opportunities for open recognition so people can personally recognize others who have gone above and beyond in their efforts to make Lincoln Industries a great place to work and a supplier of choice for many customers. Here's a little sample of what we do:

  • Monthly company lunches
  • Annual celebration
  • Continuous improvement ideas and awards
  • Service recognition
  • Safety recognition
  • Wellness awards
  • Quality awards
  • Birthdays and anniversaries
