Improvements to Lincoln Industries anodizing processes have helped strengthen the company’s position as the region’s leading anodizing source.
Lincoln Industries has a long tradition of anodizing excellence. Howard Tegtmeier says the company was providing anodizing services when he started 31 years ago.
“Our anodizing lines serve many long time customers who have found this process to be an effective finish for their aluminum parts,” said Howard. “Anodizing, unlike many other finishing processes offered by Lincoln Industries, is unique to aluminum. It involves the rapid controlled oxidation of the surface of the aluminum, creating an oxidized film. All anodize films are electrically non-conductive making them a great application for certain electronic parts. They are also very porous which allows the coating to be dyed a wide variety of colors.”
Anodizing is classified as Type I, Type II or Type III. Lincoln Industries provides customers with Type II and Type III.
Type I (Chromic Acid) is the least often used and produces a much thinner film than Type II or Type III.
Type II (Sulfuric Acid), often referred to as conventional anodizing, is the most commonly used. This process provides excellent corrosion protection for a wide-variety of aluminum parts.
Type III (Sulfuric Anodizing) is used when an extremely hard, abrasive-resistant coating is required. It is a modification of the sulfuric acid process, requiring lower solution temperatures and higher voltages during processing. This produces a denser and thicker film.
Improvements to the line including new pit coating and new ventilation and rinse tanks. All improvements have contributed to improved environmental protection, according to Plant Engineer John Merrett.
“The complete repair of the pit with a new coating provides a uniform surface that has strengthened the pit and provides long-lasting protection. In addition, the new ventilation has had a positive environmental impact for our people,” he said.
Type II and Type III Anodizing are just two of our 40 processes that Lincoln Industries uses to solve their customers’ toughest finishing challenges. To discuss your specific needs contact Dennis Buckbee at 402.475.3671.
