Tackling The Tough Projects
Tue, June 29, 2010

Lincoln Industries has long taken pride in tackling its customer’s toughest finishing challenges. In recent years the scope of these projects has expanded significantly. From integrating into tube bending and fabrications for heavy truck exhaust stacks to utilizing lean and six sigma principles to create highly efficient cells for headlight and wheel assemblies, Lincoln Industries has continued to evolve as a valuable manufacturing partner for its customers.

This evolution has never been more apparent than this month with the launch of a new project in the entertainment industry. Leveraging their unmatched expertise in highly aesthetic finishes such as chrome and satin nickel, Lincoln Industries has launched its most complex project to date.

“This is a very challenging project,” said Bill Ellerbee, Vice President of Operations. “We have a total of 33 finished components, 4 color variations, 11 polished and plated components, 10 powder coated components, 109 purchased components and 13 suppliers. There is a tremendous amount of work that goes into making a project of this magnitude a success for our customer.”

The work is the result of over 18 months of effort with its new customer by many members of the Lincoln Industries team. According to Matt Nyberg, Vice President of Business Development, “We begin most projects very traditionally, with a Business Development Manager working to tell our story to a prospective customer and identify an opportunity. Once we jointly identify a good opportunity with the customer, the degree of interaction increases exponentially.”

In the case of this most recent major project, Lincoln Industries team members from Technology, Supply Management, Continuous Improvement, Project Integration, Customer Service, Materials Management and Operations were all heavily involved with their counterparts from the customer’s organization in developing an optimal solution.

“We are fortunate to have a great customer to work with and to have built so many strong relationships over the course of this project,” said Hank Orme, President. “At Lincoln Industries, developing new business is really a team effort.”
